Reviews of DfLSS Book
Here's what others have said about Lesson Learned From an
Unconventional Deployment (from www.lulu.com)
by Eduardo Bascaran
"There are many books that describe the methodologies and
tools associated with Lean Six Sigma and Design for Six
Sigma. However these are initiatives that represent a
profound cultural transformation in a company.
Underestimating organizational resistance to change is one
of the major sources of failure. Norm Fowler's book is
unique because it focuses on all the deployment aspects that
are critical but usually not found in the literature. As
Norm describes in the book, the recipe for successful
deployment of DfLSS in Xerox involved strong leadership
support, finding the right partner and being able to
articulate the right value proposition to the Xerox
technical population. I strongly recommend the book to
anyone that is considering a large transformation initiative
in a corporate environment."
by Michael Waters
"I have read many excellent books on Lean and Six Sigma
initiatives at companies throughout the world. Norm Fowler's
portrayal of the Xerox experience is one of the best. Norm
depicts the Xerox effort in very plain terms and offers insights
from the ground level.
I particularly enjoyed this book because it reflects the
experiences of an individual that was on the front line planning
and overseeing the deployment of the Lean/Six Sigma program
within the Engineering and Scientific community at Xerox. From
this vantage point, Norm is able to offer perspectives that I
found unique from other books I have read on this subject.
If you are looking for practical advice on how to successfully
launch Lean and/or Six Sigma within your organization, this is
the book you must read."
by Jeffrey Koff
"Norm Fowler outlines a thoughtful and methodical path to
creating a Design for Lean Six Sigma Deployment that
addresses the needs of his business and creates a structure
that will help assure that the results are sustainable and
will have a positive impact. The road map may vary from
business to business, but the thought processes and the
engagement of key individuals within the organization hold
some real gems for those that want to make DfLSS work within
their companies. This book is clearly worth a read for
anyone that wants to initiate a deployment or wants to add
relevance to a deployment that has stalled."

"An outstanding book that gets to the point in a quick
and easy to read style."
"Excellent book" six out of six stars!
by Bruce Parks
“Lessons Learned from an Unconventional Design for Lean Six
Sigma Deployment” provides an honest and in-depth record of
the trials, tribulations, and successes that were
encountered during Norm Fowler's Xerox charge. As one who
was and is on the receiving end of the deployment at Xerox,
I can say Norm covers the high points, low points, and just
about everything in between in an appropriate level of
detail. The beauty of this book is it remains objective and
doesn’t point fingers; it is written in a style that teaches
by explaining the reasons for decisions and reveals the
consequences afterward. This is an excellent read for
forward thinking individuals in product development."
"Insightful" six out of six stars!
by Robert Shea
"Norman Fowler's recounting of how Xerox brought Design for
Lean Six Sigma demonstrates how, with ingenuity and careful
thought, a holistic approach to rolling out a technical
initiative can enhance its chances for success. Fowler's
writing style reflects his engineering background but this
book is loaded with insights worth the read for anyone
involved in process improvement."
